Garmin Nuvi 2360LT

Introduction.

One of the most recent releases from Garmin in GPS units is the nuvi 2360LT. Is this another winner from Garmin – well chances are the answer to that will be yes, as this GPS unit is being marketed as being suitable for both in-car and pedestrian sat nav uses. The dual use marketing strategy should mean that sales of this latest GPS device will be brisk, especially with the main vacation periods arriving soon – always a prime time for selling sat nav units.

Bangs for Bucks.

A great value in-car and pedestrian GPS unit.

A great value in-car and pedestrian GPS unit.

Despite being at a very reasonable price at around $160, the Garmin nuvi 2360LT is no basic GPS model as it comes with plenty of features and gimmicks to help it sell to anyone who wants to have all the gadgets going. Whilst you’re driving you can take advantage of the standard features on this model like lane guidance advice and live traffic updates. If you haven’t got round to fitting that hands-free kit for your cell phone in your car yet – it also comes with a Bluetooth hands-free system. Promoted as suitable for in-car use and pedestrians this isn’t a GPS to buy for one of those purposes and then suddenly decide you can use it for another; as the nuvi 2360LT comes with a dedicated pedestrian mode to switch to when not in your car.

Using the nuvi 2360LT.

Easy to install with simple menus and easy to follow icons the touch-screen is nicely responsive and, once in use, the maps show street names with easy to hear local safety alerts and voice guidance. Make a wrong turn and the nuvi 2360LT quickly recalculates and re-routes you to get you back on course. If you’re out walking with it you can use it in portrait or landscape mode and a compass mode can also be invoked. Any downsides to the new Garmin GPS – well yes, two of them. First up it’s only got a 4.3 inch screen, understandable as a pedestrian users sat nav but for in-car 5 inch screens are more the norm now. Also, in bright sunlight the screen is difficult to read without shifting the viewing angle around.
