GPS On iPhone 4

Introduction.

Needless to say if you can get hold of an Apple iPhone 4, then one of the apps you’re sure to want on it straight away is a GPS. The GPS app on the iPhone is called “Maps + Compass”, which is quite straightforward as it does what it says – but without the need to fold maps or handle unfamiliar equipment. So, what will this cell phone satellite navigation system offer you?

Where are you?

GPS on the iPhone 4 really comes into its own when you’re on foot and in a neighborhood you’re not familiar with. So, if you’re out and about looking for a friend’s address or something like a place to eat – then using the iPhone 4 GPS to locate your exact position on a neighborhood map makes sense. Then, if you know where you’re heading for you can read off the map what your next directions should be. Alternatively, if you are visiting a place you’re unfamiliar with and want to know where the nearest restaurant or bar is – then enter a simple search criteria into ‘Map + Compass’ and it will pinpoint your location, show you that position on a map and then offer the locations of the sort of nearby places you’re looking for. If you then select one of the map pins it will tell you things like the phone number of the place – so you can check there’s a table free or their opening times etc. It can even tell you the time of the next bus or train at a given stop on the route chosen.

Where are you going?

Needless to say the iPhone GPS system will give you ‘live’ directions as you travel – and not just on foot. Go to any of the online GPS accessories stores and you can get an iPhone GPS mount to use it in your car for directions whilst driving. The on-screen display for travelling directions can be in the form of a map showing the route in highlight or as a list of directions. If you are driving, you can view the local traffic speeds as an easy to read green, yellow or red route highlight. Also, whether driving or on foot, the built-in compass will rotate on-screen to always tell you the direction that you are facing.
